I have always been an athletic person. When I was younger, I played baseball with Pinecrest Little League in Ottawa. I was not that great a ball player, but I could run like the wind. The coaches said “Get this kid into soccer.”
In grade six I played soccer at school – and the girls’ soccer team won second place. At school I also ran cross country and won second place.
I got into competitive soccer with the Nepean Hotspurs soccer club in grade six. I have had a strong passion for soccer ever since. When I found out about the Maccabiah games I was very happy to be able to combine my Judaism and my sport all in one because I do not know many Jewish female soccer players. I think coming together and meeting world-wide Jewish players will be a blast.
However, in order to participate in this fantastic opportunity I have to raise a lot of money to get to Israel. The cost of going to the games is high because it needs to cover my airfare, accommodation, medical care, insurance, team uniform, and other expenses. I need to raise $8,300!
I have two part time jobs. I’m a teaching assistant at Ottawa Modern Jewish School. (I graduated from OMJS after grade seven and continued at Temple Israel school until graduation after grade ten). I also deliver a community newspaper. I was a (Jewish) Santa's elf at Merivale Mall over the holiday season. And I'm hoping to start a new job soon. I save every penny from my jobs but I’m still going to need some help.
